Glory and Rocknroll

Well, here's a little story 'bout a boy named Glory and a girl named Rocknroll.
They had fire in their hands and long-shot plans that came true long ago.
All washed up in '71 from gettin' high in '69
But they were dreamin' on a feelin' and nobody could believe it when they won the race against time.
Well, he was livin' on the white-trash, low-class, no-cash, bad-ass side of the Bronx.
Dependin' on the needle and the Stones and the Beatles and the other bands burnin' the cross.
Barely 15 when the N.Y.P. gave him one year without bail.
He could never understand there was magic in his hands that could keep a lonely kid outta jail
'Til one day he went to school, he was taken for a fool, so he dropped out and bought a guitar.
He moved to Hollywood and met a girl livin' in her car.
Between the music he was writin' every summer night and that pretty queen stealin' his heart,
Well, he was crossin' every finger and wishin' on the brightest star.
"And keep it simple" said the radio across the land
And Glory said "No way! I can't stand it.
I was born for Rocknroll, for Rocknroll I love."
Well, days went by in the blink of an eye and Glory still couldn't fill up a room.
They said "We'll let you stay the summer, but you gotta find a drummer or it's sidewalk singin' for you."
So late one night with the moon so bright, on the dreams of a one man band,
The Devil just grinned 'cause tequila was a friend for the heart broke travelin' man.
It took him 19 year and 27 beers and the bottle just to get him to cry.
So by the time Rocknroll made it down to the show he was packin' up and sayin' goodbye.
She took a long, hard look at the hard rock crook and the damage of a six string life.
She knew the bottom line was you better live or die 'cause the good girls never survive.
She said "I'm level with the Devil, can I be in your band? 'Cause my name's Rocknroll,
I'm just a rebel on a hell-bound punk rock rodeo.
And sweet sixteen is a ripoff dream, so let's run away together tomorrow.
We'll take a chance and dance with the strong, long arm of the law."
"And keep it simple," said the soft-rock record man
And Glory said "No way! I can't stand it.
I was born for Rocknroll, for Rocknroll I love."
They sold out all their friends,
Wondering what could Cupid give them?
On the road where good luck ends
For rebels unforgiven.
And everybody knows that the way life goes ain't always gonna give you the breaks you need.
Centerfolds cry and outlaws die 'cause the weather never let 'em believe.
But like I said in the beginning, there's a race worth winning and the rain can't take it away
'Cause even when the bad guys take away the sunrise, Hollywood dreamers remain.
They're buried on the back stage, livin' on the last page, tryna make it big in a bar.
Choppin' up a good thrill, shootin' up in overkill and wakin' up beside a guitar
And playin' songs so loud they may never hear the sound of the silence that can shake up a sunset town.
Ain't it kinda funny how the women and the money are the miracles bringin' up down.
Yeah, but they don't even care that nothin's fair, 'cause they'll be dead when the damage is done
So Glory gave a rose to the girl who was holdin' a gun.
And for everybody burned on the common return, they wrote a song about shootin' the sun.
And like Bonnie and Clyde, they're love bandits on the run.
"And keep it simple," said the cop, "While you still got a heartbeat."
And Glory said "Bullshit! You can't stop me.
I was born for Rocknroll, for Rocknroll I love."
